TITAG has the goal of increasing communication among professionals, institutions, and AZA members involved with the educational exhibition, conservation and captive propogation of invertebrates. TITAG does this by:
- Hosting formal paper sessions at AZA conferences
- Encouraging TITAG participation in computer networks such as CAUZ/LSIG
- Supporting informal panel discussions and meetings in other forums
TITAG also promotes the use of invertebrates as display animals and educational tools by:
- Encouraging the use of invertebrates through special exhibits and workshops, and
- Supporting specialist training workshops
TITAG members network with other invertebrate management and conservation groups by:
- Creating an information network through various forums such as AZA Communique, IUCN Captive Breeding Specialist Group Newsletter & others
- Networking with other invertebrate specialist groups (Entomological Society of America, Xerces Society, Invertebrate Working Group of Gr. Britain and Ireland)
TITAG supports invertebrate research on captive management and conservation by:
- Improving and developing captive management techniques
- Promoting habitat preservation and in situ conservation
- Helping to evaluate the role of captive management in conservation
TITAG administers a unique TITAG Small Grants Program designed to provide supportive funds to groups or individuals engaged in invertebrate research.
Fund raising efforts support TITAG education and conservation activities, and TITAG's goals include:
- Publication sales, conference fees and other outreach methods
- Solicitation of grants sponsors and donations
